ABOUT THE ROCHESTER TORCH CLUB

The Torch movement began in Minneapolis in 1924. Today there are 70 clubs in the US and Canada. The Rochester club, organized in 1926, was the third to be established.

The monthly meetings of the Rochester Torch Club provide a forum for individuals with diverse interests to hear and discuss topics relevant to today’s society. Typical subjects have included preventing medication errors, results from the Cassini Saturn Mission, the energy needs of the internet, and the life and times of an orchestra personnel manager. These discussions provide members with insight into different fields and the significant issues that confront us today. Speakers may be members or invited guests. A social hour followed by dinner precedes the evening’s presentation and discussion. Spouses and guests of members are welcome.

There are nine meetings during the year. This year the meetings are held at the Oak Hill Country Club, 346 Kilbourn Rd., Rochester, NY.  Socializing begins at 6:15 pm, with dinner at 7:00 pm.  Once yearly, our club holds a joint meeting with the Buffalo and Geneseo Torch Clubs in Batavia, New York.

TORCH INTERNATIONAL holds an annual convention in a member city to hear presentations on a theme selected by the host club. Torch Magazine, published three times yearly, is a forum for members to address topics of special merit and interest.

If you are a professional person who enjoys talking and listening — are a little curious — and like associating with others in good fellowship, you will enjoy Rochester's Torch Club. Annual membership dues are $80 for individuals and $135 for households.
